In East Asian characters, the word for "Crime/Offense" (犯) contains the "Dog Radical" (犭). Humans commit the crimes, yet animals have carried the linguistic blame for over 3,000 years. It is time to free the radicals.
【The New Glyph: Human Self】
Since committing crimes is a purely human agency, we propose substituting the Dog Radical with the Human Radical (亻). Personal responsibility, fully owned by humans.
The visual etymology of "犯" (Crime) exposes a deeply rooted human convenience at the expense of animals.
In ancient China, dogs and beasts (犭) were associated with wild, unpredictable energy that suddenly breached boundaries.
However, animals operate on instinct or human conditioning. They do not draft laws, nor do they willfully violate them. Moral and legal "offense" is a uniquely human capacity. Blaming animals is a linguistic cop-out.
Across the globe, progressive efforts are being made to purge systemic bias from human language. Yet, in East Asia, a profound linguistic prejudice remains unquestioned for over 3,000 years: the use of the "beast radical" (犭) in words associated with human failure and crime.
The word "犯" (Crime / Offend) historically depicts a wild dog (犭) attacking a kneeling human (己).
But let us be clear: animals do not draft social contracts, nor do they willfully violate them. Crime is a strictly human phenomenon. By writing "犭" in "crime", we continuously reinforce a subconscious bias that frames non-human species as naturally malicious, chaotic, and inherently criminal.
This is a textbook case of Linguistic Speciesism.
We advocate for replacing the beast radical (犭) with the human radical (亻) to form a new ethical glyph: **"𠆽"** (Human + Self). Humans must own their mistakes. Stop blaming the dog. Free the Radicals.
Input any Japanese/Chinese text to automatically sanitize biased beast radicals into ethical, human-attributed glyphs.
Note: Replacing "狂" with "任" re-attributes violence to human responsibility (Duty/任), highlighting that moral failure lies strictly within human agency.
We are formally petitioning the Unicode Consortium to recognize these ethical glyphs (such as 𠆽) and urging keyboard and operating system developers to integrate animal-safe character options.
